GRINDING

Carrs are approved experienced suppliers of quality assured Forging Ingots in the As Cast, Annealed or Hot Transfer condition.

All cold ingots are thoroughly inspected and ground as required i.e. Fully, Head & Tail, or Spot Ground. Further grinding on Forged or Rolled material Bar, Billet etc is done on site using our semi-automatic Billet Grinder and Swing Grinders as well as the option of Precision Bright Grinding as required.

Ingots are ground by abrasive wheel. Grinding is obligatory to have the semi finished products forged later.

At ELG Carrs Stainless Steels all our billets are offered fully ground and ultrasonically tested to ASTM A388 level II. Allowing total customer satisfaction when forging the billet into components and shapes, without this there is the opportunity for surface cracks to appear on the forged components resulting in rejection.
