TREPANNING of BARS

ELG Carrs Stainless Steels produce trepanned, deep hole bored and honed bar as required whatever the size.

Trepanning is a method of producing large deep holes economically from solid. The process can also be used for boring tubing where heavy stock removal is needed. A specially designed hollow tool cuts a narrow circular path in the work piece and leaves a solid core. Because all the material is not being removed, the rate of penetration by trepanning is much faster that other methods.

The cutting tools used are carbide, which means that all of the newer high strength machinable materials can also be trepanned. Trepanning can produce 1.Ds up to 24” diameter lengths up to 12 feet in any desired wall thickness over 8mm.

Trepanning produces holes which are accurate for size, Superior in finish and concentric to the outside diameter.

Trepanning cuts only the circumference of the hole leaving a centre core to be used again.
